Thrussington in Bloom

Judging for the competition (part of the East Midlands in Bloom Competition) takes place on 15 July 2008. The organisers have been encouraging villagers to spruce up their front gardens, put up hanging baskets of flowers where suitable and generally tidy up the village. A band of helpers has spent several Saturday mornings clearing up unkempt areas of the village and various flower planters have been placed around the village, mainly outside the churchyard extension on Hoby Road, outside the church gates, the bottom of one of the jitties onto Rearsby Road and at the bottom of Ferneley Rise. The Parish Council has arranged for an extra mowing of the The Green and Village Hall grass just before the judging date and has weeded the "Ronald Banks" shrub bed in honour of the occasion. The outside area of the Village Hall has received extra attention to keep it clean and tidy, too.

A recent fund raising tea party organised by the Village in Bloom group raised £500 towards the cost of this venture.
