NewsThe latest news from Thrussington. Tue, 09 Jun 2009 14:39 Thrussington in Bloom 2009 This year's competition will be judged on Monday, 6 July. The day before, Sunday, 5th July, the Committee is organising an Open Gardens Day, to raise money for the costs of entering the competition. Many gardens in Thrussington will be open to the public and there will be refreshment venues around the village, serving hot/cold drinks and snacks. There will also be an event on the Green, but the full programme has yet to be finalised. However, it promises to be a great day for the village and villagers and visitors alike are encouraged to make the most of this chance to admire the gardens and enjoy a stroll round our beautiful village. All the older street signs have been replaced this year, courtesy the Parish Council and Charnwood Borough Council, so there should be no problems locating different areas in the village. Wed, 18 Mar 2009 08:10 Parish Open Meeting, 19 May 2009 The Annual Parish Open Meeting took place at 8 pm on Tuesday, 19 May 2009 in the Village Hall. Eleven parishioners joined the five parish councillors, our representatives on the County and Borough Councils and the clerk at this, the 115th Parish Meeting. The Minutes of last year's meeting were read by the clerk and signed by the chairman, after approval by the meeting. Copies of the Expenditure and Receipts statement for 2008/09 were circulated and the contents closely scrutinised by the meeting. The Parish Council runs on a tight budget and keeps costs to the village tax payer as low as possible. More » There were reports from both the County and Borough Councillors, detailing items of interest in the county and in Charnwood. The agenda item on a Village Design Statement was discussed. Whilst there was interest in this, no one was prepared to take it on at the present time. (But if anyone reading this article is interested, please contact the clerk!) Affordable Housing was also discussed. The survey conducted last autumn revealed a modest requirement for affordable housing. The Parish Council is pursuing this with the Rural Housing Enabler to see if there is a suitable site in the village for a small development of this sort. The meeting ended with refreshments and a chance to discuss matters of concern with our local County and Borough Councillors. « Less Sun, 23 Nov 2008 07:45 John Ferneley Plaque A Plaque to commemorate the Animal Painter, John Ferneley, was unveiled in Thrussington on 29 October 2008 by Charnwood Borough Council Heritage Department. Sun, 19 Oct 2008 07:07 Thrussington in Bloom Results Judging for this competition, properly entitled the 2008 East Midlands in Bloom Competition, took place on 15 July. The results were announced in September and first time entrant Thrussington came away with a Bronze Medal and also the Judges' Award for the "Bloom Committee's" vision and impressive Action Plan. The school received a Silver Medal in the Best School Garden section. The judges were delighted to find this pretty village lying off the beaten track, and commented on the lovely village green, as well as praising the organisers for a "great first time effort". The judges had no doubt that they would see the village go from strength to strength in future competitions. More » The Bloom Committee and the school received their awards at a special ceremony in Nottingham earlier this month. Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication. The village is certainly looking a lot tidier and the floral displays have matured really well. Winter planting is envisaged to keep the village looking good during the next few months and plans for next year's competition are already in hand. « Less Fri, 18 Jul 2008 09:40 Thrussington in Bloom Judging for the competition (part of the East Midlands in Bloom Competition) takes place on 15 July 2008. The organisers have been encouraging villagers to spruce up their front gardens, put up hanging baskets of flowers where suitable and generally tidy up the village. A band of helpers has spent several Saturday mornings clearing up unkempt areas of the village and various flower planters have been placed around the village, mainly outside the churchyard extension on Hoby Road, outside the church gates, the bottom of one of the jitties onto Rearsby Road and at the bottom of Ferneley Rise. The Parish Council has arranged for an extra mowing of the The Green and Village Hall grass just before the judging date and has weeded the "Ronald Banks" shrub bed in honour of the occasion. The outside area of the Village Hall has received extra attention to keep it clean and tidy, too.
