A Plaque to commemorate the Animal Painter, John Ferneley, was unveiled in Thrussington on 29 October 2008 by Charnwood Borough Council Heritage Department. Representatives of the Parish Council and Local History Society were there to witness the short ceremony. The plaque can be seen on 15 The Green.

Thrussington in Bloom Results

Judging for this competition, properly entitled the 2008 East Midlands in Bloom Competition, took place on 15 July. The results were announced in September and first time entrant Thrussington came away with a Bronze Medal and also the Judges' Award for the "Bloom Committee's" vision and impressive Action Plan. The school received a Silver Medal in the Best School Garden section. The judges were delighted to find this pretty village lying off the beaten track, and commented on the lovely village green, as well as praising the organisers for a "great first time effort". The judges had no doubt that they would see the village go from strength to strength in future competitions.

The Bloom Committee and the school received their awards at a special ceremony in Nottingham earlier this month.

Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication. The village is certainly looking a lot tidier and the floral displays have matured really well. Winter planting is envisaged to keep the village looking good during the next few months and plans for next year's competition are already in hand.

Thrussington in Bloom

Judging for the competition (part of the East Midlands in Bloom Competition) takes place on 15 July 2008. The organisers have been encouraging villagers to spruce up their front gardens, put up hanging baskets of flowers where suitable and generally tidy up the village. A band of helpers has spent several Saturday mornings clearing up unkempt areas of the village and various flower planters have been placed around the village, mainly outside the churchyard extension on Hoby Road, outside the church gates, the bottom of one of the jitties onto Rearsby Road and at the bottom of Ferneley Rise. The Parish Council has arranged for an extra mowing of the The Green and Village Hall grass just before the judging date and has weeded the "Ronald Banks" shrub bed in honour of the occasion. The outside area of the Village Hall has received extra attention to keep it clean and tidy, too.

A recent fund raising tea party organised by the Village in Bloom group raised £500 towards the cost of this venture.
